6 Secrets That Make Nordstrom Even More Fabulous

Everybody‘s talking about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale—their annual event offering incredible designer discounts. Having worked at Nordstrom as a Sales Associate and Personal Stylist, I’m very familiar with the Anniversary Sale and all the hype it gets. However, Nordstrom also has some amazing everyday services that I always offered my clients to enhance their shopping experiences.

Now, not every sales rep will tell you about these (and not every Nordstrom offers the same perks), so be sure to ask!

1 - Free shoe stretching.

Yes, there is a contraption that will actually stretch your shoes and give them a more comfortable, lived-in feel, while still looking brand new. Some even have a built-in bunion bump so it will push harder on that area. The sales person has to hand crank it every day for 3 days for the most amount of stretch. I used to advise my clients to come in each day to see how the shoes felt.

2 - Free shoe buffing.

The shoe department has a whole lot of shoe polish and buffers just waiting to be used in their back room. Trust me, I used to buff so many shoes (I’m not sure all of them were even purchased at Nordstrom).

3 - Recondition your Hunter boots.

Hunter boots look amazing out of the box, but after two seasons they seem to get a coating of film. This is a natural oxidation process that happens when the boots have been worn several times in different climates. Some people even asked to return them, but it’s a simple fix. Hunter boots created a sponge filled with solution that wipes the film right off and makes the boots look brand new. You can get a free polish, but would have to buy the solution to take care of it at home.

4 - If it’s “sold out,” ask about “DTC.”

DTC, or Direct To Consumer, means that if you find something you love and the system says it’s sold out, the Sales Associate can call to see if it’s available in another store. They’ll even ship it directly to you. This is also true if it says it’s sold out online—call your sales rep and ask.

5 - Amazing alterations.

When you buy clothing at Nordstrom, you have access to their tailors. That could mean a free hem on your pants, skirt or another basic alteration. So, if you try something on and it doesn’t fit just right, ask your sales associate if alterations can be called to your dressing room. Find out how long it will take and if there is an extra charge. They can also help with steaming a dress or ironing down a collar. They even have some high-pressure, quick-clean tools at their disposal in case you get makeup on a shirt you just tried on. I can’t say enough great things about their alteration team. They’re miracle workers.

6 - The. Best. Return policy. Ever.

This should be commonly known for any Nordstrom enthusiast, but it bears repeating. Regardless of the condition of the item you’re returning, as long as you have a proof of purchase, they will help you. Even if you bought it more than 5 years ago, their system will find your purchase based on some basic info you provide. Some/any kind of proof will do and your return will be accepted. A rapport with a sales rep comes in really handy with this.

Keep these tips in mind for your next trip to Nordy’s. I also highly recommend using the same sales person each time. The more familiar you become with your salesperson, the more willing they will be to go the extra mile for you, so build those relationships and enjoy those perks!
